Justice Owen J. Roberts #74 (1875-1955) autographed a chambers card dated October 22, 1939. The board has two photographs of Justice Roberts with his wife, Elizabeth. One of them with his dog. Roberts changed his vote in favor of the “new deal” this decision did not sit well with many men on the court as the test was…is the legislation constitutional?

When Roberts retired from the court, he destroyed all his judicial materials and resigned in 1945.

Benjamin N. Cardozo #75 (1870-1938) Justice Cardozo wrote a letter to a Mr. Shapiro on August 4, 1934 (over 80 years ago) thanking him for providing a copy of an address. Justice Cardozo died on the court four years later.

There are no photographs of Herbert Hoover on the board.

Both these men were nominated by President Herbert Hoover. Respectively in 1930 and 1932.
