John Marshall Harlan II #89 (1899-1971), William J. Brennan, Jr. #90 (1908-1997)

Board #370 - John Marshall Harlan II #89 (1899-1971), William J. Brennan, Jr. #90 (1908-1997)

John Marshall Harlan II #89 (1899-1971) Harlan was nominated to the Court by Dwight D. Eisenhower he was accepted by the senate and was sworn on March 28, 1955. (He was called ii so he could be distinguished from his grandfather who was on the court in 1877 Justice #44) (John Marshall Harlan). He served the court more than sixteen years. (his grandfather doubled that term.) Harlan gives an autograph on newsprint that depicts him the newest Justice on the Court on March 28,1955.

William J. Brennan, Jr. #90 (1908-1997) had no forefather on the Court he was nominated the old-fashioned way. Brennan stayed on the Court for thirty-three years. Nearly half of that time was on Chief. Warrens Court where Warren gave him so many decisions to write other Justices called him Junior Chief. Brennan gives us a letter dated August 4, 983. By those year Harlan would have been gone for nearly 15 years as well as Chief Warren. Sad news tells us, however Harlan passed in 1971, he had no choice but to leave.

The board number is 370.
