Justice James C. McReynolds #66 (1862-1946)
Justice James C. McReynolds #66 (1862-1946) Justice McReynolds autographed a court paper dating it July 23, 1926. There is a photograph where the Justice is standing near steps holding a pair of gloves, he is also shown as a passenger in a horse-drawn carriage. There are some pictures taken when he was employed by the New Haven railroad.
McReynolds wouldn’t permit his clerk to be Jewish, a smoker or married. He had no tolerance for wrist watches or fingernail polish. He was outspoken. Other Justices changed golf courses to avoid McReynolds, but he cried at Fanny Holmes funeral and that earned the respect of Justice Holmes. It should be noted James Clark McReynolds left to charity the balance of a rather large estate.
