13th Chief Justice Frederick Vinson #85 (1890-1953) Autographed check from the Louisa National Bank dated January 23, 1924, no check number. Included is a Photograph of “The Chief” and his wife, Julia Dixon, And a photograph of the Chief Justice in his robe and a Photo of the Chief. Chief Vinson was nominated Chief Justice by Harry S. Truman wherein he received confirmation on June 24, 1946. He served in that capacity until September 1953. The Chief (he preferred Fred) was one of the few people who can claim to have served in all three branches of government. He was Chief Justice, but he also served in the executive branch of government as what seems many justices have as Secretary of the Treasury. (You will see the position as Secretary of the Treasury is a common place for those being considered for appointment to the Supreme Court.) He was also a representative in Congress representing Kentucky.

Vinson was the last Chief Justice to serve from the Democratic Party
