Justice Clarence Thomas #106

Board 056 - Justice Clarence Thomas #106

Justice Clarence Thomas #106 autographs a color photograph of himself on a first day cover posted October 23, 1991 in Washington D.C. There is also a caricature of Justice Thomas crafted by “Dilbert” and forever capturing the justice in front of the United States supreme court in Disney-like status.

Justice Thomas was nominated to the court by President H. W. Bush. Since he was to replace civil rights icon Justice Thurgood Marshall it was thought another icon with that direction should or would be nominated. Thomas, though black did not have that charisma of a legend in Justice Marshall and therefore the Thomas confirmation became difficult. It became a rougher road after the sexual allegations lodged by a past co-worker. Afterwards the now Justice Thomas properly criticized his undeserved treatment, he was sworn in without any further undeserved treatment and today sits on the right hand of the Chief Justice.

Board number 58.
