Board #209a - Charles Whittaker #91, Stanley Forman Reed #77,James F. Byrnes #81, and Tom Clark #86.

There are four Justices signing this co-signor board. They are as follows: Charles Whittaker #91, Stanley Forman reed #77, James F. Byrnes #81. And Tom Clark #86.

Men step down for many reasons. Perhaps these men had many good reasons.

Justice Byrnes remained on the court for a period short span of 2 years. But it could be the justice, like a butterfly was interested in touching every political flower. It seems he did everything and as well as, in his home state. Justice Clark retired so his son could be named Attorney General. Sad his son lasted a scant 3 years and Clark returned on many informal visits frequently. Whittaker vacillated frequently and retired citing exhaustion ala mental fatigue but more likely the difficult decisions. He became Chief Counsel for General Motors. Justice Reed had his hand in many serious well written decisions and could have stayed longer. Maybe he lost so much of his hair. He did outlive all other Roosevelt appointees

Board number is : #209a
