William Henry Moody #60 (1853-1917) & William R. Day #59 (1849-1923)
Justice Moody was one who held positions in all three branches of government. Moody and his family all came to Massachusetts from England as puritans. He went to Harvard for 4 months and then he read law earning admission to the bar two years after college. Moody was nominated to the Court by Theodore Roosevelt but by illness he spent a bit over two years on the bench. Congress gave retirement to Moody.
William R. Day #59 (1849-1923). Justice day was from Ohio and graduated from Michigan law. Day was selected to negotiate the end of the Spanish American War. Like future Justice John Paul Stevens, Justice Day was an avid baseball fan and requested frequent updates when the court was in session. He retired from the court a year before he passed. Both Justices submit a check Moody’s check is made May 1, 1906 while days was made on November 10, 1892. Both Justices have 2 pictures and the nominating President for both men has 1 photograph.
