William Howard Taft #69 (1857-1930)

Board #245 - William Howard Taft #69 (1857-1930)

William Howard Taft #69 (1857-1930) is the only man to hold the top job in two branches of government. (President and Chief Justice). He was installed as Chief Justice on July 11, 1921.

He retired and on February 3, 1930 and passed February 19,1930.

The letter was written to John Wesley on October 4, 1913, discussing a sculpture session.

The board presents a dated letterhead on a personal letter addressing his availability to sit for a sculptor to transform a blob into a sculpture of him. (it’s hard to envision how a man who gets stuck because of his size in a Washington iron bathtub can find enough material to construct a sculpture that size.)

This must have been before he was named to the court but after he left the presidency. Taft was a large man who on many occasions complained to his friend how hot it was in the Philippines to endure.

The board presents 3 pictures.

This board is numbered 245.

offered for $6600.
