Fred M. Vinson, 13th Chief Justice of the United States #85 (1890-1953)
Fred M. Vinson, 13th Chief Justice of the United States #85 (1890-1953) it seems appropriate here to note that Chief Vinson was the last Chief to be appointed by a Democratic President. (again, the date of last Chief Justice appointment by a Democrat was June 24, 1946.)
Vinson autographs a check drawn on his law account of the Louisa National Bank made without number on December 4, 1928 in the amount of a little more than $8.oo. There are five pictures attached to the board 1, 2, and 3 all show him in his court robes. The first is giving a speech. In 2. and 3. He displays just what a big man he is dwarfing his attendant in both of those photographs. (these pictures must have been taken in the enrobing room of the supreme court building. There are two photographs taken of the nominating president one with the chief the other without. There is a first day cover by artist Pugh both signed and numbered 141 of 149.
Chief Vinson said: ”the problems we face are human problems, therefore are capable of human solutions,”
