William Rehnquist #100, Justice Rehnquist autographs a photograph of himself. (SEE BOTTOM LEFT) Although Rehnquist began life as an Associate Justice in 1972, he was elevated to the 16th Chief Justice by President Ronald Reagans nomination in September 1986.

Justice Thurgood Marshall commented ‘the Chief’ was a great Chief Justice and he rarely minced words. The Chief autographs two articles on this board: 1. a photograph of himself over newsprint and the bottom of a matted photograph There is a large photograph of a young Justice to help us all remember what the Chief looked like with hair. And the board includes a photograph of the Taft Supreme Court building.

(it’s not called that but President/ Chief Taft had the suggestion but died in 1930 before he could see its completion. IN 1935
