Harlan F. Stone #73 (1872 - 1946)
Harlan F. Stone #73 was nominated to the court by President Calvin Coolidge in, 1925 and in 1941 continued thereafter as the 13th Chief Justice until his death in 1946 under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Stone graduated Columbia law. Stone with Justices Brandeis and Cardozo formed the courts liberal bent known popularly as the 3 musketeers. They trod within the confines of the most divided court in history.
The board presents the chief in several different poses. In the first 2 the Chief appears in a conservative business suit with vest and tie. The third photo catches him as he leaves his home for the morning exercise of work wearing a cold filtering hat an overcoat and spectacles.
There is a first day cover that contains a stamp of his likeness and a picture again showing him with glasses.
The chiefs autograph appears to be the end of a letter.
