On a first day of issue card depicting the likeness of Chief Harlan Fiske Stone #73 (1872-1946) The 13th Chief Justice of The Supreme Court four sitting Justices autographed the issued cover postmarked august 25, 1948, but four months after the Chief passed. Those Justices appear below in order of their autographs. (they include thereon the date they too took office which is also reflected.)

1. JUSTICE HUGO BLACK #76 08/17/1937

2. JUSTICE HAROLD BURTON #84 10/01/1945

3. JUSTICE CHARLES E. WHITTAKER #91 03/25/1957

4. JUSTICE BYRON WHITE #93 04/16/1962 (White replaced Whittaker who retired)

The photographs of Whittaker and Black are in business attire, while the photos of Burton and White show them in court robes.

As to their longevity on the Court the following computation’s reflect of the four:

Black served 34 years 20 days; White served 31 years 73 days; Burton served 13 years 12 days; and Whittaker served 5 years 6 days.
