William O. Douglas #79 (1898-1980)

Board #155 William O. Douglas #70 (1898-1980)

Justice Douglas began life sickly and poor. In the end he set records normal men ONLY DREAM OF ACHIEVING A Few of these records are bad, however some are outstanding! But none of these are accomplished by a normal man: He serveds the longest, writing the most majority decisions the most dissents, most books written, most public appearances by any Justice . In private life: he was married most with the most divorces, most impeachment attempts (4) (grounds morality) no hearings no votes no kidding. He walked the entire Appalachian trails and thought trees should get the vote. In Beauharnais v Illinois, (1952) 342 u. s. 250,287 dissenting Douglas observes.

“The framers of the constitution knew human nature as well as we do. They too had lived in dangerous days; they too knew the suffocating influence of orthodoxy and standardized thought. They weighed the compulsions for restrained speech and thought against the abuses of liberty. They chose liberty."
