This board displays a letter on U.S. Supreme Court stationary written June 12, 1918 and signed Willis Van Devanter. It is written to the aviation section of the naval reserve corps and is essentially asking that they have the named candidate working for them. The board includes four photographs: 1. The Justice in his chambers. 2. Speaking in the second photograph to his granddaughter, 3. Again in his chambers. 4. And attending a court meeting at the White House. That day top hats seem to be in where Van Devanter is seen to your far left. There was a Spanish flu epidemic in 1918 the court was in recess for a month.
